The Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM ) took note of Joran van der Sloot’s statements via the media, but they have not been officially confirmed by the US authorities. Thats way OM ask so-called “rechtshulpverzoek” to the US Department of Justice to obtain all documents of the Court and all documents related to the investigation.
The prosecutor’s office in Aruba (OM )is closely following the case, as the case is still open in Aruba. As we all know Joran van der Sloot (36) confessed to killing the American teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005. He made this confession in exchange for a reduced sentence in an extortion case, which he was in court for in the United States.
The case of Natlee Holloway was a big one when she disappeared in Aruba in 2005, after she left a nightclub with Van der Sloot and two other men to go to the beach with the young man. He is presumed dead, but his body has never been found.
The case in Aruba is still open and the chances that Aruba will be judged by Joran van der Sloot based on his latest confession are slim. He has made many confessions, and each time it turns out that such a confession is unsupported by evidence and is useless in such cases.
But even if there were enough witnesses, the case could not be convicted. Joran was under 17 when he probably killed Holloway, and therefore his case became old. However, the court may eventually decide to try this person under the law of adulthood. The developments that are taking place are certainly interesting as this is not the first time Joran van der Sloot has witnessed but that in the end turns out not to be true.
The Public Prosecutor of Aruba requested all the documents in order to review the case and the statements that took place. What this means for Joran Van der Sloot is not yet known.
Also noteworthy are statements by Kees van der Spek, who worked for many years with Peter R. de Vries’ right-hand man on his programs and conducted various investigations around the case. Kees van der Spek has publicly stated that he does not believe in Joran van der Sloot’s statement.
In the past Joran van der Sloot has stated that he only accepted that he became ill and that he removed the body”, Van der Spek said on Thursday on the morning program of Mart Meijer and Sophie Hijlkema on NPO 3FM. “I continue to believe that this is the truth, that he became evil and that he removed the body”.
However, there is still no proof that Joran van der Sloot’s claims are true. It is not yet known whether Joran’s statement has now closed the case and whether this means that Natalee Holloway will be officially declared dead and whether the mother will be able to receiving Natalee Holloway’s life insurance if it exists. In the mother’s statement it can also be seen that there is joy instead of sorrow.
Once the US authorities send the Public Ministry of Aruba the documents related to the investigation they brought to the US, OM will study them and analyze them to see what procedural decisions can or should be taken.
