Also during the last intimate and regional market of 2025, which is organised by the Art foundation ‘Kunst en Cultuur aan de IJssel’, on Sunday, 17th of August, at the GROTE KERKHOF square, next to the Lebuïnus Church, and across from city Hall, there will be a TRIBUTE TO REMBRANDT painting-performance from the Aruban street-artist,
Gustave Nouel (GN).
Once again GN will be “special guest” of the organization, to share his TRIBUTE TO REMBRANDT’s performance and portrait sketching skills with the public.
According to GN(www.gustavenouel.nl ) himself, his performance is a tribute to the unique, God-given painting talent of the most celebrated portrait painter of this world, the ‘timeless’, Rembrandt van Rijn… At this Mont-Martre-like art market, public can admire and/or buy a wide range of exceptional works of art by selected artists from across the region. The special invited international street artist from Aruba, can be seen in action, inspired by the incomparable self-portraits of Rembrandt. Of course, you will also find more artists at work during this particular market, as at Montmartre in Paris, and in other squares with the artist.
Several members of the DAK artists’ association, where GN has been mentoring fellow artists for the last years, will also surprise the public as “aspirant street artists” alongside GN, offering “free” portrait sketches (“free” = a voluntary contribution for the sketch). The DAK artists’ association (https://www.deventeramateurkunstenaars.nl) will also show their own creations/artwork and promote growth in art and creativity in general.
GN is (so far) the only artist from the Overseas Territories whose paintings (JAZZ ART) were officially presented in the Dutch pavilion during an important World Expo… (WORLDEXPOSEVILLA ’92). In Aruba, the Deventer “street artist” GN is considered by many to be ‘the Aruban Rembrandt’.
The local Aruba Hall of Fame (at Paseo Nos Herencia) has recognized GN as one of the most famous local artists in Aruban history.
Paul Moerkerken, former theater director, art connoisseur, and organizer of various arts and cultural activities, wants to organize a surprise for the public related to the ODE TO REMBRANDT painting(s) by GN, in 2026, during a large art market on the Brink in Deventer. GN is considered an experienced international street painter/artist from Aruba who has now reached retirement age but is still happy to share his expertise at all levels, all over the world.
