In recent hours, the digital platform “Vraag & Aanbod Aruba” has become the scene of serious accusations against a local travel operator identified as Natalia Delgado of “OK Travel Aruba.” The public complaint puts the travel agency sector under scrutiny due to the severity of the financial fraud affecting dozens of citizens.
According to the public report, the suspect allegedly received considerable funds from clients for flight bookings and travel services. The victims allege that, despite having made payments over two months ago, the services were never delivered. The situation escalated when, according to the claim, the operator declared “bankruptcy,” leaving clients without their paid tickets and without their money back. The total amount mentioned publicly exceeds 20,000 florins, a sum that, in a legal context, is classified as a significant fraud.
Penal consequences
Under the Aruban Penal Code, the acts described fall under the definition of fraud (oplichting). This is an offense with serious consequences:
• Penal Sanction: In the event of a successful investigation, the suspect could face prison time, which varies according to the severity and recurrence of the act.
• Civil Liability: In addition to criminal punishment, victims have the right to demand compensation for damages (schadevergoeding) through a civil lawsuit to recover lost funds.
• Investigation Process: It is important to note that for a case to progress through the judicial system, victims must file a formal complaint with the Aruba Police Force (KPA) so that the Public Prosecutor’s Office can initiate a formal criminal investigation. Posting on social media is not the way to get money back.
Recommendations to the community
The Aruba community is advised to be extremely cautious:
• Verification: Before conducting any transaction, verify that the company has the necessary commercial and tax registrations at the Chamber of Commerce (KvK).
• Payment Method: Avoid making cash payments.
• Formal Complaint: If you are a victim of a similar situation, do not limit yourself to social media. Go to the police station to formalize your complaint, which is the essential first step for any subsequent legal process.
This case serves as a stern reminder to always opt for established and reliable companies to safeguard your financial well-being.
