Lions Club Aruba has successfully completed its annual Back to School Food Bags project, an initiative by the Hunger Relief Committee that has already become a tradition within the organization and the community.
Every year in the month of July, formal letters are sent to various companies around the island to request food and beverage donations. Lion members collect the donations on previously agreed-upon days, and they are brought to the Lion’s Den in preparation for distribution.
During the final weekend before school starts, members gather at the Lion’s Den to prepare and organize all the materials. During this weekend, all bags are filled and then distributed to Lion members, who deliver them to schools for children in need. It was projected to fill 80 bags this year, but ultimately we achieved 50 bags, which, despite the lower quantity, remained very significant in impact.
The Back to School Food Bags project remains an inspiring experience for everyone who participates. As Lions, we believe that “caring is giving,” and we honor our world motto: “WE SERVE.”
The Aruba Lions Club is a service club that has been working tirelessly for the community of Aruba for nearly 80 years, operating under the auspices of Lions Club International, which consists of more than 46,000 clubs in over 200 countries, has over 1.4 million members worldwide, and has celebrated 109 years of existence, making it the oldest and largest service organization globally.
