The work of a photographer and journalist in Aruba carries a heavy weight that many people do not realize. It is a continuous task where pressure is high to deliver quality material in a small market, where you must be available at all times and the work continues day and night.
The process starts right from the preparation. Previously, there were digital cameras that only took six photos, after which it turned color. Nowadays, everything moves at tremendous speed. The salary might be effective if you work eight hours, but if you reach ten hours, you leave early. There is always a lot coming our way, which makes the work practically endless.
This is not a 9-to-5 job. Every day brings a new assignment, where you have to live with the constant demands of Aruba’s media world and what happens on the island. If you don’t love the job, you won’t pull it off properly; if you just come to work at 8 and go straight home, you won’t reach the goal of being a well-known and/or professional journalist.
