Wendrick Cecilia Takes the Leadership of AVP: “Every generation must answer the questions of its time”

Congreso Wendrick Cecilia

At the recent convention of the Aruban People’s Party (AVP), a leadership transition of great political significance took place. Following long-time leader Mike Eman’s decision to end his political career at the helm of the organization, Wendrick Cecilia was introduced to assume the responsibility of leading the party into a new era.

Expressing a deep sense of pride and satisfaction, Wendrick Cecilia emphasized that this transition comes with a profound commitment to Aruba’s future. With Mike Eman’s departure from leadership, AVP officially enters a generational renewal process.

“We assume this beautiful responsibility with commitment, great courage, energy, and motivation to keep moving Aruba forward and lead our organization into new dimensions,” declared Cecilia, recalling that AVP is a party rich in history and filled with leaders who were trendsetters in their respective eras.

Cecilia emphasized that the new leadership remains firmly anchored in the Christian Democratic ideals and principles that define the party: solidarity, human dignity, shared responsibility, and sustainability.

According to the new leader, the primary goal is ensuring that the country’s economic progress does not remain confined to a single sector, but reaches every neighborhood and every home in Aruba. He views the responsibility of governing in a future AVP cabinet as a sacred privilege bestowed upon the organization by the people.

The concept of a “new generation” is not defined solely by age, but by conviction and a genuine heart for serving the country.

“Aruba faces many challenges and barriers in policy, legislation, and international developments for which we must prepare. The solution lies in the creativity of our people. When we unite our strengths as a nation, we know our potential and what we can achieve,” Cecilia noted.

“God’s Timing Is Perfect”

Reflexively looking back on his own political career, which began at a very young age, Cecilia reiterated that his entry into politics was not an experiment, but a calling with a deep purpose:

“I did this out of a conviction that was born in my heart, and to this day that fire remains lit to drive Aruba and our party forward. People often say you are young or too young, but I believe that God’s timing is perfect.”
