Centro di Bario Noord commemorated World Agriculture and Food Day on Friday, October 16, 2026, with a day filled with learning, participation, and awareness for children, parents, and adults, emphasizing the importance of agriculture, healthy eating, and food security.

The workshop was facilitated by Fundacion Alimentashon Escuela Kohehe and Mr. Hensley Martina from the sister island of Curaçao.

In the morning, children took part in an interactive agriculture workshop where they learned how to plant, how plants grow, and how to care for various types of vegetation. The children were extremely enthusiastic about learning and showed great interest during the demonstrations while discovering the names of different plants.

In the afternoon, activities continued with a workshop and dialogue session for parents and adults. Ms. Jessica Piña also attended alongside a few of her clients from Stichting Ambiente Nobo to join the activities. The attendance and participation reflected a growing interest in understanding the importance of agriculture and exploring ways to start growing our own fruits and vegetables at home and within our community.

One of the key points highlighted was the need for Aruba to become more conscious and prepared for the future. In a constantly changing world, we cannot take for granted that the countries currently supplying us with fruits and vegetables will always have enough to meet their own demand while continuing to export to countries like Aruba. Therefore, it is essential to find ways to strengthen local production and reduce, where possible, our dependence on imported food.

This event emphasized the importance of educating our children from an early age, while encouraging parents and adults to take action and recognize that everyone can contribute to a more sustainable future. By learning to plant and produce our own food, we can promote a healthier lifestyle and strengthen awareness around food security in our community.

Centro di Bario Noord wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Fundacion Alimentashon Escuela Kohehe and Mr. Hensley Martina for their contribution and collaboration in this important initiative. Their input helped expand the knowledge and awareness of our children and community regarding food, agriculture, and food security.

The Center firmly believes that education and community collaboration are essential to building a stronger future. The seeds of knowledge we plant today can become the positive change our community needs tomorrow.
