The 15-minute documentary Changá offers an in-depth look at the lives of Antilleans living in the Netherlands, using the game of dominoes as a metaphor for their personal goals and development. The story illustrates how people may think their goals are unattainable, but in reality, everything depends on how you play your “game of life” to achieve and succeed.
The production incorporates anthropological research, in which Manpreet Brar analyzes the thoughts, attitudes, and cultural expressions of the Antillean community in the Netherlands. This work was carried out in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Francio Guadeloupe, anthropologist and co-producer at the University of Amsterdam.
According to Manpreet Brar, the documentary is a way to communicate that the Netherlands and the Caribbean islands can gain a deeper understanding of the aspirations, goals, and desires of Antilleans during their adaptation process in the Netherlands after leaving one of the Caribbean islands. Changá presents life, resilience, and the philosophy of personal strategy in navigating challenges.
