On Friday morning, the ship ARC 24 de Julio of the Colombian Navy arrived in Aruba for a special weekend visit. The visit coincides with the celebration of Colombia’s Independence Day and the commemoration of over 200 years of diplomatic relations between Colombia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. At the Oranjestad pier, Prime Minister Mike Eman, accompanied by his wife Doina Eman-Neagoy, welcomed the captain of the ARC 24 de Julio.
During the official welcoming ceremony, the national anthems of Aruba and Colombia were played. Also present at the ceremony were the Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labor, Wendrick Cicilia; members of Parliament; the Consul of Colombia in Aruba, Gustavo Serrano Amaya; and the director of Aruba Ports Authority N.V. (APA), Marc Figaroa.
Consul Serrano Amaya explained that the ARC 24 de Julio is a ship completely designed and built in Colombia, at the Colombian Navy’s facilities. The ship departed from Cartagena and, after its stay in Aruba, will continue its journey to another port.
During the weekend, the community has the opportunity to visit the ship at the Aruba cruise terminal. On Friday and Saturday, the ship is open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. On Sunday, visiting hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Entry is via Gate 4, and there are no special requirements for visitors. On Sunday, there will be a special celebration from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in honor of Colombia’s Independence Day, which is officially on July 20. During this activity, 216 years of Colombian independence will also be commemorated.
Prime Minister Mike Eman highlighted the valuable contribution of the Colombian community to Aruba’s development. According to the Prime Minister, members of this community contribute their talent, energy, and dedication to all facets of our society. The Prime Minister indicated that the visit of the ARC 24 de Julio provides an opportunity to show not only Aruba’s hospitality but also the warmth and friendship that exist between the Aruban and Colombian people. He expressed admiration for the progress Colombia has achieved and for how the country has overcome various challenges. He also highlighted the Colombian capability, expertise, and knowledge that made the construction of an advanced ship like the ARC 24 de Julio possible.
The visit brings together official representatives and the community in a moment of friendship, recognition, and celebration. At the same time, it reaffirms the historic relationship and cooperation that exist between Aruba and Colombia.
