Playa Film Festival with several free public presentation

The local film festival of Playa will take place this year from November 3rd to 5th. On the first night at Ateliers 89, the festival opens with a selection of short films including “Stick is Life” by Miquel Galofre from Trinidad & Tobago, “The Aftermath” by LaChelle Joy Hunt from USA, “La Dama Blanca” by Guus de Sain from Curacao, “At a Glance” by Ruud Stijn from the Netherlands, “Un Dia” by Nathan M. Legger from Aruba, The Challengers by Rhonda Chan Soo from Trinidad & Tobago and Salted by Aishah Graviel from Curacao. At the end of the presentation of the films there will be conversations with the filmmakers present.

On the second day of the festival, November 4, there will be several feature and short films. This afternoon there will be a free screening of the film “Good Guys with a Gun” by John Mossman from the USA. The Canadian feature film “The Founder Effect” by Justin MacGregor will also be screened on Saturday afternoon with free admission. Saturday night will feature short school documentaries produced by Mon Plaisir College, Schakel College, YNZ Montessori High School and Colegio San Augustin. It will be followed by the documentary “It is not Past-08 12 1982” by Ida Does from the Netherlands. These presentations will take place at Ateliers 89.

While Ateliers 89 features documentary presentations, Wolff & Co. Studio located at Royal Plaza Mall on the top floor will host free screenings of the feature film Everybody wants to be loved by Katharina Woll from Germany with English subtitles. It will be followed by a special presentation of the documentary “One Pint at a Time” by Aaron Hose from the USA.

On Sunday afternoon and evening at Ateliers ‘89 there will be rehearsals of various films with public access completely free. The night of the festival will conclude with an awards ceremony that will take place at Wolff & Co. Studio located at Royal Plaza Mall, admission will be completely free. This year the award for best short and feature film will be given by a jury. In addition there will be two new awards that recognize the best performances and emerging talent. The evening will recognize Ludmila “ Luty “ Martinez for her 40 years of contribution to theater and cinema.

The Playa Film Festival project is an initiative of the CINEARUBA foundation to stimulate and promote a local film culture.
