Creating Connection, Community, and a Sense of Belonging

The University of Aruba (UA) recently warmly welcomed its master’s students during the first Master’s Table, an evening focused on creating a stronger connection, community, and sense of belonging among students from different master’s programs at the University of Aruba.

The event brought together new master’s students, continuing students, and UA alumni from various programs, including the Master of Laws, Master of Science in STEM, Master of Governance and Leadership, and MBA.

Instead of starting with academic content, the evening focused primarily on connection first. Students had time to get to know one another, share experiences, and discover the different perspectives that make up the master’s student community at UA.

The warm welcome by the dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, Dr. Salys Sultan, set the tone for the evening. The event concluded with words of appreciation from the dean of Law, Dr. Chun Luk, and the MBA program coordinator, Dr. Rosabelle Illis.

UA’s theme for this year, “Your pattern shapes more than you,” was also an important part of the evening. The theme invites students to recognize that their decisions, knowledge, relationships, and actions contribute to something larger than their own academic success.

The evening also highlighted the support available to students alongside their academic careers. The coordinator of the Research Center, Dr. Esther Plomp, shared information regarding the different ways students can participate in research and the support available throughout their academic journey.

The Master’s Table reflects UA’s commitment not only to forming successful graduates, but also UAchievers who actively participate and contribute to Aruba and the wider community.

At the end of the evening, students went home with new connections, new conversations, and a renewed sense that their journey at UA is about more than just a diploma; it is about becoming part of a community.
