MP Dangui Oduber strongly questioned the attitude of Minister Gerlien Croes, who is on a media tour trying to sell and justify the Rijkswet HOFA under the argument that it will bring more control and transparency. According to the parliamentarian, it is extremely ironic that precisely the minister who advocates for more control and transparency, now sitting in the governing seat, does not want Parliament to control her and refuses to be transparent with the people.
Oduber pointed out that 280 days have already passed since Minister Gerlien Croes used a private jet to go celebrate in Curaçao. During these 280 days of silence, the official has not answered the formulated questions, has not faced the people in Parliament, has not shown up for a debate, and refuses to share the proof of payment that could have put an end to this discussion.
The parliamentarian noted that the minister is acting as if she stands above Parliament and our laws. Due to the lack of answers and transparency, the MEP faction made use of the LAR instrument to demand that the official be held accountable. However, Oduber indicated that the minister received the LAR advice 6 weeks ago already, but to this day she refuses to share it with Parliament. What does the Minister have to hide?
Oduber remarked that the minister is not practicing what she preaches, as her actions contradict the image of transparency she wishes to present. He emphasized that it cannot be that the official demands accountability from everyone else while making an exception for herself.
He indicated that hiding information and failing to reveal the payment receipt or the LAR advice are actions that obstruct Parliament’s work of CONTROL.
Oduber concluded by saying that a minister like Gerlien Croes can NEVER talk about more control and transparency when she herself DOES NOT want control and DOES NOT want to account to Parliament. His final message to the minister is: “You can run, but you cannot hide, because sooner or later the truth will come to light!”
