Aruba is facing a moment of political destabilization that is causing concern within the community. According to Member of Parliament Dangui Oduber during a press conference, this crisis began during the cabinet formation process between the AVP and Futuro parties.
The Beginning of the Process and Disagreements The formation of the government began with a period of disorder and control, without even reaching a consistent name for a cabinet. Normally, a cabinet bears the name of its prime minister, but in this case, there were various changes in the proposed combinations. Party Futuro did not accept the name “Mike Eman cabinet,” which marked the beginning of tensions and sadness for Aruba.
Later, the situation became more complicated when leaders of Party Futuro sought legal support to prevent position changes in the cabinet, showing disagreement with key points such as the refinery. The appointment of other candidates continued to bring disagreements, marking a season of chaos in the formation process. Did Party FUTURO really come for a better future for Aruba, or did it come to destroy Aruba’s future?
Lack of Transparency and Accountability After weeks of governance, it came to light that the cabinet is functioning without sufficient transparency toward parliament and the people. Cases arose where the council of ministers kept matters quiet or failed to share them openly in parliament. This lack of open accountability mocks the campaign promises that were put forward to improve the functioning of parliament and bring more democratic control resources.
