Shailiny Tromp-Lee questions the transparency and control of the new Investment Fund

Shailiny Tromp Lee Ta Cuestiona Transparencia Y Control Di E Fondo Di Inversion Nobo

During a parliamentary session, Member of Parliament Shailiny Tromp-Lee expressed her firm opposition to the way the government is handling the creation of the “Investment Fund,” stating that it poses a great risk to our autonomy.

Tromp-Lee clarified that she is not against the concept of an investment fund, but she categorically rejects the way the minister is executing the process and the structure under which the fund is being organized.

Concern over lack of democratic control The MP emphasized that the creation of the fund under the current structure will drastically weaken the control that Parliament holds. According to Tromp-Lee, this fund opens the door to spending public money without the necessary transparency and oversight, which she considers unacceptable.

“The AVP-FUTURO government is creating situations that broadly describe a lack of control over projects and investments. Apparently, history is repeating itself and AVP has not learned its lesson,” stated Tromp-Lee. She argued that there is a real fear that these mechanisms are being used to bypass financial supervision rules, spending the public’s money without proper checks.

Demand for greater rigor and investigation In her intervention, Tromp-Lee insisted on the need for a deeper investigation:

• Absence of oversight: She criticized the fact that neither the Advisory Council (Raad van Advies) nor the General Audit Chamber (Algemene Rekenkamer) are being involved in the review process.

• Call for responsibility: She pointed out that both the Minister and Parliament have a duty to act more prudently to incorporate these oversight bodies, so as not to repeat past mistakes.

• Risk alert: She warned that the government is ignoring the lessons of history and that this lack of transparency could have negative consequences for our country’s finances.

Tromp-Lee ended her message by calling on the parliamentary majority to reflect on their responsibility, warning that if they do not act with integrity, the country could face a crisis of governance again. It is clear that AVP has not learned its lesson from the past and is once again placing the country of Aruba in very delicate situations.
