50-year-old tourist becomes the 12th traffic fatality in Aruba

Early Tuesday morning at 1:38 AM, the police central dispatch was notified of a single-vehicle accident on the Sasaki road.

The initial report given to the police stated that a gray Hyundai car had somehow run off the road, leaving two people injured. Central dispatch deployed patrol units, an ambulance, and the fire department to the scene.

Upon arrival, the first patrol unit found a gray Hyundai Accent with two men inside who appeared to be severely injured, one of whom was unresponsive. The ambulance crew administered medical aid, but unfortunately, nothing more could be done for him.

The forensic doctor arrived and certified the death of tourist Dwann Kaleid Gatewood, born in the United States on October 10, 1976 (50 years old). He becomes the 12th traffic fatality for the year 2026.

The other victim (the driver) was transported by ambulance with maximum urgency to the hospital to receive advanced medical treatment. His condition is critical.

Traffic specialists and technical police arrived to conduct their investigation. The Victim Support Department (Slachtofferhulp) was also present to offer assistance to the family of the deceased.

The Aruba Police Force extends its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
