GGD Bonaire proudly looks back on a successful two-day seminar on sexual health. During the event, professionals from Bonaire, Saba, and St. Eustatius came together for inspiring presentations and interactive workshops.

Health is essential, and sexual health is an important part of overall well-being. It involves a positive and respectful approach to sexuality. Providing accurate information for all age groups helps people make healthy and informed choices.

The first day focused on Mi futuro, mi eskoho konsiente (“Nu Niet Zwanger” / “Not Now, Pregnancy”). This program supports clients and trains professionals to openly discuss fertility wishes, sexuality, and contraception. During the seminar, the launch of the program on Bonaire and the first results were presented. So far, 60 professionals have been trained, and 18 designated staff members have been appointed. Since the start on June 2, 28 conversations about fertility wishes have been conducted.

Relationships and sexuality were the central themes on the second day. Various professionals from Bonaire presented their work and shared their experiences. Colleagues from Saba and St. Eustatius also spoke about their work and what they have learned. This led to valuable exchange and inspiration. In addition, young people were given a voice in a podcast recorded on-site.

Furthermore, GGD Bonaire presented the latest developments in relational and sexual education. The GGD has long provided sexual education to young people. It now also offers guidance and training for schools and youth organizations, with the aim of better supporting youth in their development. To date, 82 professionals have been trained in relational and sexual education.

Finally, GGD Bonaire explained its sexual health consultation hours. Residents can visit for questions and advice about sexuality, fertility wishes, contraception, and STIs. It is also possible to take a free STI test. The nurses work by appointment and are available Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
