HOFA: A New Betrayal of Aruba

Aruba stands at a critical crossroads.
After the financial crisis of 2015–2017 under AVP and Mike Eman, our people paid the price for irresponsible governance. And now, the same Eman is pushing the HOFA Kingdom Law, disregarding the will of both the people and Parliament.

History repeats its pain.
In 1948, the AVP sold out Aruba alongside Curaçao in a 12–8 vote, ignoring the voices of 2,147 Arubans who had signed for separation.
Today, history repeats itself — a small group is once again imposing its will upon our sovereignty.

2000–2017
– Under MEP: tourism grew and public finances were stable.
– Under AVP: uncontrolled spending, skyrocketing debt, and Dutch intervention through a Royal Decree (KB).

2017–2021
– Evelyn Wever-Croes became Aruba’s first female Prime Minister.
– Reforms, fiscal discipline, and economic resilience through tourism.
– The COVID-19 pandemic devastated the economy, yet the government supported the people with Dutch-backed loans.
– The Netherlands violated the spirit of Article 36 of the Charter, imposing political conditions on emergency loans.
– The Dutch demanded the implementation of CHE/COHO and the RAFT framework.

2022–2024
– Gradual recovery: tourism growth, budget surpluses in 2023 and 2024.
– The MEP government defended Aruba’s autonomy and avoided Dutch-imposed oversight.
– National debt decreased, and financial credibility improved.
– The Netherlands imposed a punitive interest rate of 6.9% on COVID-related loans.
– A Governance Agreement was reached to reduce interest to 5.1%, remove RAFT from negotiations, and discuss a hybrid Kingdom Law.
– In 2024, MEP lost the election, and AVP-Futuro came to power — promising ƒ700 extra for all pensioners.

2025
– The HOFA Kingdom Law concept remains, but AVP-Futuro failed to negotiate in Aruba’s interest.
– Mike Eman, Geoffrey Wever, and Gerlien Croes sent the law to the Netherlands against the will of the people.
– Anyone supporting the HOFA law betrays Aruba’s autonomy.

Conclusion
The HOFA law is not designed to benefit Aruba — it is designed to control it.
Arubans must recognize who truly defends our national interests, and who surrenders our autonomy for personal or political gain.
A nation that forgets its past is condemned to repeat the same mistakes.
