As part of World Diabetes Day (November 14), the Aruba One Happy Island Lions Club, in collaboration with the POH (Primary Care Practice Support), provided an educational and interactive session last Thursday morning for grade 4 and 5 students at Colegio Santa Famia in Pos Chiquito.
This educational activity was aimed at primary school students, with the goal to:
– Increase basic knowledge about diabetes
– Explain the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes
– Emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle
– Motivate children to make choices that can help prevent type 2 diabetes
During the session, the presentation followed the IDF KiDS methodology, adapted for schools, and included a dynamic educational Kahoot quiz to encourage participation and understanding. The children participated enthusiastically and showed great interest in the topic.
At the end, the students received an apple with the message:
“Take care of your body! Eat more fruit, drink water and move your body to prevent diabetes.”
They also received a leaflet with information about diabetes.
Aruba One Happy Island Lions Club extends its sincere appreciation to:
– The POH experts, for their clear, accessible and student-friendly presentation
– Colegio Santa Famia, for their cooperation and openness
– Hilton Hotel and Riu Hotel, for their support and collaboration
– BID, for their contribution and assistance
Aruba One Happy Island Lions Club reaffirms its commitment to education, awareness, and prevention within the community. Through projects like this educational session, we work to prepare a generation with greater knowledge about diabetes risks and to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Together we can increase awareness, inspire action, and strengthen the health of our community.
