The Lanta Papiamento Foundation (FLP) announces that this year’s celebration of the Officialization of Papiamento will take place on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, under the title “Papiamento den Hofi” (Papiamento in the Garden).
The event is a cultural and educational evening dedicated to the promotion and celebration of our Papiamento language, as well as a reflection on its importance as our mother tongue.
The FLP expresses its satisfaction that various organizations in Aruba dedicated attention to Papiamento on May 21st—a date that marks 23 years of the officialization of Papiamento in Aruba. This demonstrates a growing awareness within the community regarding the value of our language as an essential part of our identity and cultural heritage.
The “Papiamento den Hofi” program includes:
Video screenings on the history and development of Papiamento, followed by discussions.
Lectures, poetry, and storytelling.
Book sales.
Dance and live music.
Additionally, there will be an open mic session for participants who wish to share a poem or a short story in Papiamento. Those interested can sign up upon arrival or in advance via phone or WhatsApp at 567-4699.
