Union leaders who participated in the passive demonstration during the visit of King Willem-Alexander confirmed that the action achieved its main objective: making the voices of workers and the people of Aruba heard, including in the Netherlands.
The president of the TOPA union, Axcel Figaroa, expressed his satisfaction with how the day unfolded and emphasized that the action produced concrete results. Although the protest was not massive, its impact was clear, and the message reached the appropriate authorities.
A similar view was shared by the president of the STA union, Diego de Cuba, who was also present during the demonstration. He stated that the current situation calls for serious reflection from all Aruban citizens.
According to De Cuba, it is important for the community to pause and carefully analyze the effects of Kingdom legislation, specifically the Rijkswet, which in his view is not favorable for Aruba. He stressed the need for greater awareness and dialogue about the impact of such decisions on the island’s future.
The participation of different unions in the passive action reinforced a common message: the concerns of the labor sector are serious and deserve attention, both at the local level and in the Netherlands.
