Jair Tromp (Fire Chief): “We must reconnect and elevate the department to the professional level the public deserves”

As part of the celebrations for Fire Prevention Week and Aruba’s Firefighters’ Day, Fire Chief Jair Tromp shared the primary vision and objectives currently guiding the department in this new phase.

Tromp explained that this year’s celebration combines two fundamental elements: the first Open Day (Open Dag) in seven years open to the general public and children, and a social-sports program dedicated to the personnel. The main goal of these internal activities is to strengthen camaraderie following a challenging period for the organization.

“The past few years were difficult for the department. By coming together and playing sports over the course of a week, we are striving to reconnect with one another to improve both the work environment and the organization itself,” Tromp noted.

After spending 14 years away from Aruba, Jair Tromp assumed leadership of the department late last year with a firm commitment to driving the Aruba Fire Department toward a higher standard of excellence.

“I returned with great motivation and energy to improve the department and place it back where it belongs: as a professional organization that the public and our visitors can be proud of,” the Fire Chief emphasized.

Recalling his own childhood when a fire truck visited his school, Tromp reflected on how that single moment planted the seed for his eventual professional calling. He highlighted that firefighting is physically and mentally demanding, yet yields immense satisfaction through the daily opportunity to serve and assist the community.

Concluding his message, Tromp expressed deep gratitude to all department employees for their daily dedication:

“I am proud to be back with them and to strive, alongside them, to bring the department back to the top. I am very grateful for the effort they put in every day. We always aim to work in a positive atmosphere together with the team to continuously improve our organization.”
