Minister of Justice, Integration, Public Transport, and Energy, Mr. Arthur Dowers, LL.M, M.Sc., is currently in New York as part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands delegation during the High-Level Week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
On the first day of his official agenda, Minister Dowers joined a bilateral meeting as a member of the Kingdom delegation, where climate change took center stage on the agenda.
Within this framework, Minister Dowers met with Climate Envoy (IGG) Jan Versteeg to address developments and challenges in the field of climate action, emphasizing the importance of highlighting the unique reality of small islands like Aruba within international dialogue.
For Aruba, climate change is not merely an international policy topic, but a living reality with direct consequences for our island. As a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), our vulnerabilities are distinct and must be carefully factored into ongoing global discussions and decision-making.
Participation in High-Level Week provides Aruba, as a constituent country of the Kingdom, with the opportunity to continuously strengthen international dialogue and cooperation on matters of direct significance to the country’s future and sustainable development.
