Shailiny Tromp-Lee: “A Prime Minister who does not speak to their people, and does not address their challenges and concerns, is not governing”

Member of Parliament Drs. Shailiny Tromp-Lee has expressed deep concern regarding the pattern of silence that characterizes the leadership of the current Prime Minister. Aruba is facing real crises that require clarity and direction from the highest level of Government, but what we receive instead is silence.

“The question that many Arubans are asking themselves is simple: where is the Prime Minister? Not in Parliament. Not in press conferences. Not in public statements regarding the crises that affect the daily lives of our families. This silence is not accidental; it is a conscious choice, a pattern of Mr. Eman,” Tromp-Lee declared.

This pattern is evident. First of all, the Prime Minister has never appeared in the hall of Parliament for a debate and leaves formal questions unanswered. Neither does he hold press conferences in his official capacity. And regarding the drastically rising cost of living, constant crises within the cabinet, increasing insecurity, and a worsening mental health crisis… the only answer once again is silence.

On HOFA—a Kingdom Law (Rijkswet) that the vast majority of our people oppose, which goes directly against our constitution, and of which we can almost say we will never be able to get out—the Prime Minister signed it, but has never stood before his people to defend or explain his decision. Silence once again.

Right now, Eman is certainly failing to deliver: “A Prime Minister has the obligation to speak to their people, to present themselves to Parliament, and to answer when the people question them. This is not a political preference; this is a moral and constitutional responsibility,” Tromp-Lee explained firmly.

Aruba deserves a leadership that is present, that answers when the people ask, and that stands firm for our autonomy. A Prime Minister who hides from debate and who does not speak to their people is not governing. He is simply filling a seat.
