The dams around Aruba are facing a precarious situation. Currently, most of these water resources are practically empty, making infrastructure maintenance work more crucial than ever. Authorities are exercising strict control and making an urgent appeal to the community to avoid behavior that affects water catchment capacity.

The dams, which play an important role in the island’s natural water resources, are in a state that demands continuous attention. According to information received from Santa Rosa spokesperson Randy Maduro, the dams are not just places to store water, but an infrastructure that requires constant cleaning to function optimally when the rains arrive. Currently, during the drought season, all the dams are dry, and an appeal is being made not to dump trash in them.

One of the biggest challenges the dams face is the presence of trash dumped on their edges. When citizens dump trash in these areas, it causes the formation of mud which, later, blocks the flow of water. The situation becomes more complicated when heavy machines, such as tractors, have to enter the area to do the cleaning work. The mud that sticks to these machines makes maintenance work much more difficult and costly.

Santa Rosa emphasizes that these actions are contradictory to the goal of ensuring maximum water catchment. “We ask for the urgent cooperation of every citizen not to throw trash on the edges of the dams. This is essential to allow this natural resource to be optimally utilized.”
