University of Aruba Celebrates the Graduation of the Fifth BKE Cohort

Universidad

The University of Aruba proudly celebrates the successful completion of the Basic Qualification in Assessment/ Basiskwalificatie Examinering (BKE) by the fifth cohort of participants. During a special graduation ceremony, certificates were awarded to 11 lecturers, representing faculties and programs from across the University.
A total of 12 participants enrolled in the program, with 11 successfully completing all requirements. This achievement reflects the commitment of our academic staff to continually strengthen their teaching and assessment competencies to support high-quality education.
The BKE is one of the University of Aruba’s key professional development initiatives and serves as an important qualification for lecturers. The program is centered around four core competencies of the university lecturer as assessor. Participants demonstrate their ability to act within the institutional assessment policy and assessment organization, align assessment practices with the educational program, apply assessment knowledge and skills appropriately, and continuously maintain and further develop their assessment competence. Through a dossier and an assessment conversation, participants demonstrate that they meet these professional standards and can contribute to high-quality, reliable, and valid assessments in higher education.
The BKE is designed and executed by a team of educational specialists from the Center for Quality Assurance. The graduation of this fifth cohort marks an important institutional milestone. Within just three years, approximately 75% of the University’s full-time academic staff have obtained a BKE qualification or an equivalent credential. This demonstrates the University’s ongoing commitment to educational excellence, continuous improvement, and accreditation readiness.
The BKE is an integral part of the University of Aruba’s broader professionalization agenda and aligns with the ambitions outlined in the Multi-Annual Corporate Strategy 2026–2035, which identifies staff development and educational quality as strategic priorities.
The University of Aruba congratulates all graduates on this important achievement and thanks the trainers, assessors, faculties, O&Cs, and leadership who continue to support the professional development of our academic community. Congratulations to the graduates of BKE Cohort 5!
