Atraco-team Makes Arrest Following Seizure of Illegal Firearm

Atraco Team

The Atraco-team (Overvallen-unit), in collaboration with the Arrest Team, conducted an operation on the Green Corridor resulting in a detention. The Atraco-team had received intelligence indicating that an individual was in possession of an illegal firearm. Personnel from the department worked extensively to verify the information. On Wednesday, the team executed their plan and intercepted a grey Nissan March on the Green Corridor. During the search of the vehicle, a firearm was discovered.

The driver, identified as L.D.I., an 18-year-old born in the Netherlands, was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm. Both the weapon and the vehicle have been confiscated for further investigation.

Following the initial arrest, the Heist Team extended their investigation to a residence in Balashi. At this location, ammunition was found and subsequently seized.

The Aruba Police Force (KPA) reminds the community that the “Hand it in, or we will come get it” campaign remains active until May 24, 2026. Citizens have the opportunity to dispose of illegal firearms anonymously in the blue containers located near the San Nicolas police station and the former police station on Wilhelminastraat. By doing so, individuals remain anonymous and will not face criminal prosecution.

The Atraco-team continues to work tirelessly on all intelligence regarding illegal weaponry and does not rule out further arrests in the coming days
