Fundashon Konsiente proudly joins the Dutch Media Literacy Week 2025, taking place from November 7 to 14, to raise awareness about the responsible and balanced use of screens among children, youth, and adults.
With the theme “Balanced Screen Use”, the campaign encourages everyone to make conscious media choices and find balance in the digital world.

In today’s digital age, screens are everywhere. We use them to connect, learn, play, and relax. Yet, they can easily dominate our attention, disrupt our sleep, and affect our physical and emotional well-being.
This year’s campaign invites everyone to pause and reflect on how screens shape our lives — and how we can ensure that technology serves us, rather than the other way around.

According to Ms. Flavina Wanga, certified media coach and director of Fundashon Konsiente, healthy screen habits begin with awareness.
“Whether at home, at school, or in the community, we want to empower children, young people, and the adults who guide them to improve their relationship with screens,” she explains.
“Our goal is to make technology an ally for growth and connection — not a source of distraction.”

For the Caribbean islands, this awareness is especially relevant. Excessive screen time can have far-reaching effects on physical and mental health, academic performance, and the development of essential life skills.
When children spend too many hours in front of screens, they move less, their eyes tire more easily, and their sleep quality often decreases.
For teenagers, prolonged exposure to social media can weaken focus and critical thinking, impacting both academic performance and emotional balance.
For adults, patience and resilience tend to decline with excessive time spent in the digital world — qualities that are vital for guiding the next generation in a rapidly changing society.

Throughout the campaign week, Fundashon Konsiente will share a series of social media posts to inspire reflection and positive change.
These messages will invite children to practice self-regulation, youth to strengthen critical thinking, and adults to build digital resilience.
By sharing these insights, the foundation hopes to spark conversations within homes, classrooms, and workplaces.

Media Literacy Week is an annual awareness campaign organized by Netwerk Mediawijsheid in the Netherlands.
This year’s theme focuses on balanced screen use and the development of healthier digital habits.
Fundashon Konsiente is proud to bring this movement to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, adapting it to local realities and encouraging families to make conscious and balanced choices for themselves and their children.

Based in Curaçao, Fundashon Konsiente works to promote media and digital literacy, responsible screen use, and resilience among children, youth, families, teachers, and educators throughout the Dutch Caribbean.
Under the leadership of Ms. Flavina Wanga, certified media coach, the foundation supports communities in cultivating balanced digital habits and empowering everyone to thrive in today’s media environment.
