Joran van der Sloot, who is currently imprisoned in Peru, has formally requested a transfer to another prison. According to information from Peruvian news channels America TV and Canal N, the 39-year-old Dutchman states that he is serving his sentence under dangerous circumstances, where he is facing constant death threats.
In the petition obtained by Peruvian media, Van der Sloot writes that he is the victim of severe abuse by his cellmates. “I am a victim of psychological torture almost every day,” Van der Sloot states in the document. “They threaten me with death, and that is affecting my mental health. And they threaten not only me, but also my family.”

Currently, Van der Sloot is locked up in the Challapalca prison, located in southern Peru. This institution is known as one of the most terrible and isolated prisons in the country, where the most dangerous criminals are kept. The location has extreme

characteristics:
Situated at an altitude of 4,600 meters above sea level.Extremely cold weather conditions, especially during nighttime hours.Very difficult access for visitors to reach the site.

The situation in the prison is not without controversy. In December of last year, Van der Sloot was found severely injured in his cell, where according to the newspaper La Repubblica, he attempted to take his own life.

The Dutchman is pleading for a change of facility, stating that the prison administration has already agreed to the transfer. However, a judge must give formal approval before this can take place. For now, it remains pending when the court will handle this request.

Van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence in Peru for the murder of Peruvian student Stephany Flores, alongside an additional 18-year sentence for drug trafficking.

In addition to his convictions in Peru, Van der Sloot received a 20-year prison sentence in the United States. In 2023, he gave a shocking confession in which he admitted to killing American student Natalee Holloway. Although he confessed, he reached a plea deal where he was convicted solely for extorting Holloway’s parents, and not for the murder itself.
