Aruba is proud to host two important regional gatherings this week: the annual conference of the Dutch Caribbean Public Health Expertise Network (DuCaPHEN) and the annual meeting of MoBoCon (Mosquito Borne Control Network), bringing together experts, public health professionals, and vector control specialists from different countries and islands within the Dutch Kingdom.
DuCaPHEN is a collaborative network established to strengthen cooperation in public health, epidemiological surveillance, emergency preparedness, health promotion, and crisis response between Aruba and the other Dutch Caribbean islands. The gathering provided a platform for exchanging knowledge, experiences, and best practices in various areas of public health.
In parallel, during June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, Aruba also hosted the annual meeting of MoBoCon (Mosquito Borne Control). This project gathers representatives every year from the teams responsible for vector and mosquito control on all the Dutch islands. Over three days, participants shared experiences, research findings, challenges, and practical solutions related to the prevention and control of mosquito-borne diseases.
Part of the program took place in the meeting room of the Department of Public Health (Directie Volksgezondheid – DVG), where participants engaged in technical presentations and discussions. In the afternoons, the group moved to various locations in the community to share practical experiences and observe mosquito control methods in Aruba.
These two gatherings demonstrate the importance of regional collaboration in strengthening preparedness and response against the public health challenges our region faces. They also provide valuable opportunities to learn from one another, strengthen professional relationships, and develop joint solutions to protect the health of our communities.
As the host of DuCaPHEN and MoBoCon 2026, Aruba reaffirms its commitment to regional cooperation, innovation, and the continuous strengthening of public health for the benefit of all inhabitants in the Dutch Caribbean.
