The leader of the MEP party held an urgent press conference to inform the Aruban community that Professor Elsinga from the Netherlands had given advice regarding the HOFA Kingdom Law, following the meeting held last Friday in the Parliament of Aruba on this law.
After the AVP–FUTURO faction, with the exception of Mike de Meza, had given the AVP–FUTURO government a consensus with retroactive effect, Professor Elsinga is now calling for urgent attention to several points with serious consequences for Aruba if the HOFA Kingdom Law is passed.
The HOFA Kingdom Law is against the Constitution of the country of Aruba, and Professor Elsinga made it clear in his presentation that if Aruba wishes to deviate from the Constitution of Aruba and pass the HOFA Kingdom Law, it cannot be done with only 11 votes in favor. It must be done with a two-thirds majority in Parliament, which requires at least 14 votes. In this case, the AVP–FUTURO government has only 11 votes, meaning the AVP–FUTURO government cannot approve the HOFA Kingdom Law.
