Arthur Dowers: Experience, Renewal, and a Firm Commitment to Aruba

During the recent convention of the Aruban People’s Party (AVP), key party figure Arthur Dowers reflected on the political organization’s historic trajectory, the ongoing generational transition, and the global challenges that future leaders must address.

A Solid Foundation of Principles and Experience

Recalling the historic moment when the well-known “Ban cas Back” jingle resonated, Dowers took a moment to pay tribute to the historic leaders of the AVP, including Henny Eman, Watty Vos, Arends, Christians, Tico Croes, Margarita, and Mito Croes. Dowers highlighted that these leaders laid a solid foundation for the party, rooted in the deep conviction that politics must serve the public interest of the country rather than the personal interests of a select few.

Reflecting on the inspiring speeches delivered at the convention, Dowers expressed confidence in passing the torch to the new generation. According to the politician, AVP currently possesses an ideal combination: the energy of a young group joining the ranks, paired with the guidance of experienced individuals with long track records.

“I know that young people attract young people, and I also know that the experience and determination of great leaders inspire new people. AVP has an ideal combination to contribute once again to doing great things for Aruba,” Dowers emphasized.

In his presentation, Dowers called for looking beyond Aruba’s territorial borders. World challenges today demand that future leaders not only focus on the country’s development but also assume the responsibility of protecting the planet. This challenge, he noted, is larger and more complex than those of the past, yet commitment to it must remain steadfast.

When asked by the journalist about his political future and whether he will continue alongside upcoming generations, Dowers clarified that he always remains at the service of the country and the party. Dowers emphasized that since his student days he has been dedicated to politics, but never with the intention of forcing a position or seeking personal gain. “I am always here to serve. Whenever I have the energy and am called upon to continue serving, I will do so,” he concluded.
