Due to the lack of transparency on the part of the government, we as members of Parliament have been compelled to submit a formal request under the Landsverordening Openbaarheid van Bestuur (LOB — Freedom of Information Act), in order to obtain access to and a copy of a letter dated 14 August 2025 from the State Secretary of Interior and Kingdom Relations, concerning the Kingdom Act HOFA.
During the public session of Parliament, several requests were made for this letter to be handed over to Parliament. Despite these repeated requests, the government has so far refused to provide the letter in question.
We find it deeply concerning that we, as representatives of the people, must rely on a legal procedure to force the government to provide us with information. If Parliament members themselves cannot obtain information essential to their supervisory duties, what does this mean for citizens who submit requests to the government? This situation clearly shows how far the government has drifted from the principles of transparency, accountability, and respect for our constitution and our people.
During the inauguration of the parliamentary year this past September, it was revealed that nearly 80% of all questions submitted by Parliament remained unanswered. We now see that this same practice continues under the current government: not only are questions left unanswered, but the government also refuses to provide documents to which we are constitutionally entitled.
