Recently, the Public Prosecutor’s Office launched the preventive project “Choices matter, so do you”, which took place at the University of Aruba. This project is a broad collaboration between the University of Aruba and several secondary schools and is funded by resources allocated for crime prevention.
In the presence of the Attorney General, several prosecutors, and university lecturers and students, the Minister of Justice, Mr. Drs. Arthur Dowers, delivered a speech emphasizing the crucial role of the Ministry of Justice in ensuring safety in Aruba, as well as the importance of providing accurate information. The attendance of the Attorney General and multiple prosecutors at the launch highlights the importance of this initiative. The understanding that more needs to be done in crime prevention is not only shared within the Ministry of Justice but also across many other sectors.
“Choices matter, so do you” is a meaningful and well-chosen project aimed at engaging young people in the community to help convey important messages to their peers. It is essential that information reaches its intended audience correctly and without room for misinterpretation. For this reason, it is important that this group of young people acts as influencers, taking on the challenge of spreading true and accurate information without misleading others.
Providing correct information has an impact on others and can encourage them to make the right choices. This influence may not always be immediately visible, but in the future, a young person who was positively influenced today may become a professional who looks back and realizes that the information they received made a lasting, positive difference in their life.
