Parliamentarian Dangui Oduber: Minister Wever’s design for the Agripark aims to exclude local farmers!

A series of questions has been submitted to Minister Wever.

We have taken note of the recent announcement by Minister Wever, stating that the public tender for the Agripark design must be changed to an international tender because, according to him, no local company is capable of carrying out the design. This announcement has greatly surprised us, and as a result we have directed several questions to Minister Geoffrey Wever.

We have spoken with various local farmers (cunukeronan), who have expressed their disappointment and concern about the minister’s plans. They feel that this is a setup to allow foreign investors to take over the project and dictate terms over all local farmers.

We expect Parliament to receive clarity regarding Minister Wever’s plans, and we sincerely hope that his intention is not to remove or sideline all our local farmers. However, all indications suggest that this is exactly what the minister is trying to achieve — something that would be completely unacceptable. It once again shows a lack of respect for the way our local farmers are being treated.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely, as we are here to defend the interests of our local farmers rather than serve the interests of millionaire investors who aim to take away the rights of our own people.

Below you can read the questions that were submitted to Minister Wever.
