PNP Leader: “Painful but necessary decisions must be taken to guarantee long-term stability”

Ruthmilda Mimi Larmonie Cecilia

Within the framework of the profound debates taking place during the Tripartite meeting in the Netherlands, the leader of the People’s National Party (PNP) of Curaçao strongly emphasized the need to move from political discussion to actual execution. According to Ruthmilda ‘Mimi’ Larmonie-Cecilia of Curaçao, the implementation of structural reforms through the mutual regulation (onderlinge regeling) requires determination, even when the decisions may be painful in the beginning.
The PNP leader emphasized that these reforms cannot remain anchored in a purely rhetorical or partisan debate. In order to see these changes reflected in the communities of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten, it is necessary to enter the concrete action phase with a long-term vision.
One of the strongest points in the statement by the PNP leader was the call to remove structural reforms from the arena of traditional politics.
Avoid politicking: These reforms must be evaluated and implemented structurally based on what is good for the country, and not used as tools for campaigning or selective political benefit.
Vision of collective well-being: Every structural decision taken must have the actual well-being of each of our citizens as its sole goal.
“At the end of the day, the baton must be taken up. We must put our shoulders to the wheel to give these reforms a long-term structural vision so that these decisions, however hard they may be now, can yield a successful and lasting result for the future of our country,” the leader of the Curaçaoan party declared.
Along with the call for urgency, a crucial question arose regarding the structural balance that must exist in the coming months. The daily workload carried by public servants in each country is a determining factor for the success of these changes.
The implementation of structural reforms must not mean an overload that paralyzes the government apparatus, but rather an organic transition where public personnel receive the necessary tools to execute the new vision.
This firm stance by the PNP of Curaçao adds extra weight to the cohesion of the three islands, which are structurally preparing a united front and a solid block for the debates of the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO).
