The film Changá conveys a powerful message about Caribbean identity and culture within the Dutch context. During the production of the film, several interviews were conducted with Antilleans living in the Netherlands, who shared their personal experiences, life journeys, and ways of thinking as people living in Europe while keeping their roots in the Caribbean islands within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The documentary explores how cultural identity is maintained and transformed, with the Papiamento language playing an important role in the daily lives of the interviewees in the Netherlands. Through their stories, the film shows how they navigate the possibilities life presents, what initiatives they take, and how these decisions shape the direction of their future.

A central message repeated throughout Changá is that life resembles a game, where everyone is dealt a hand and must play with the cards they are given. Music and art are presented as powerful driving forces that help strengthen expression, resilience, and cultural cohesion.

According to Prof. Dr. Francio Guadeloupe, anthropologist at the University of Amsterdam and co-producer of the film, Changá invites the audience to reflect on cultural adaptation, perseverance, and the value of Caribbean heritage
