Government of Sint Maarten announces changes in fuel prices: gasoline prices rise, diesel remains the same

Gasolin St Maarten

The Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunication (TEATT), the Honorable Grisha Heyliger-Marten, has issued an official communique announcing an adjustment in the maximum retail prices for fuel. This change went into effect on May 13, 2026, starting at 6:00 AM.

The Government of Sint Maarten regulates petroleum prices by establishing the maximum price at which both wholesalers and retailers may sell these products on the island.

Reason for the Adjustment

The authorities explained that the fuel company SOL had to purchase a new shipment (restocking) of gasoline. Due to international developments, fuel prices at the global source have risen. The department of ETT (Economy, Traffic and Telecommunication) verified and confirmed this increase in gasoline (ULG) against international records (International Postings). On the other hand, the price of Gasoil (diesel) remained unchanged.

New Consumer Prices

The change in rates per liter is as follows:

Product Old Price (XCG) New Price (XCG) Change
ULG (Gasoline) 3.097 3.202 +0.105
Gasoil (Diesel) 2.968 2.968 Unchanged

Price Buildup

To guarantee total transparency, the ministry shared the breakdown of how the final price per liter is calculated (all figures are rounded to three decimal places):

  • Gasoline (ULG): The base price from Petrotrin was XCG 2.026. After adding freight costs (XCG 0.141), import duty (XCG 0.290), the “liquid throughput fee” (XCG 0.080), and the wholesaler’s margin (XCG 0.230), the maximum wholesale selling price reaches XCG 2.767. When adding the 5% Turnover Tax (sales tax), the retailer margin (XCG 0.145), plus the final tax, it reaches the maximum consumer price of XCG 3.202.
  • Diesel (Gasoil): This price remains based on a previous posting date (March 30, 2026), which facilitates the consumer price remaining fixed at XCG 2.968.
