Yesterday afternoon, the Coast Guard (Wardakosta) received a notification about a person on a boat near Fuikbaai. The caller indicated that a boat had run aground at the entrance of Fuikbaai. The owner of the boat, a man, got out of his boat to push it back into the water. As he did so, he was struck by the boat’s propeller (chapaleta). The victim passed away at the scene due to his injuries.

The Coast Guard immediately alerted CITRO, the volunteer organization that works together with the Coast Guard, which promptly went to the location at Fuikbaai. Upon arrival, the lifeless body of the man was brought aboard the CITRO boat. The lifeless body of the man was taken to the fishermen’s harbor at Caracasbaai, where the Curaçao Police Force (Kuerpo Polisial di Kòrsou) took over the case.

The man’s boat sank completely near the entrance of Fuikbaai and poses no danger to maritime traffic.

The Coast Guard wishes the victim’s family and friends much strength during this difficult time.
