Treatment Phases at Brasami: From Detoxification to Resocialization

Fases De Tratamiento En Brasami

Brasami Addiction Clinic works with a structured program divided into different phases to help clients overcome addiction, starting with a two-week detoxification period.

The Detoxification and Stabilization Process
During the first two weeks, the focus is on the detoxification process, which means clearing substances from the person’s system. Alongside detox, highly important elements include tranquility, rest, and medical supervision. If the person experiences discomfort, needs additional medication, or requires a bit more rest to successfully detox and achieve peace of mind, the necessary guidance is provided before moving on to the next phase.

Following the detox phase, the process transitions into structure and motivation. The client regains a daily structure, eating and sleeping at scheduled times. Nothing is left outside of this structure; work is done to reset the person’s biological clock.
In the motivation phase, if the individual says, “Hey, I want treatment,” their motivation is strengthened so they can work on their addiction and maintain sobriety.

Rehabilitation and Trauma Management
Once that phase is completed, the journey enters the rehabilitation stage. The client receives treatment for trauma, working alongside social workers who provide a clear understanding of the trauma.

Treatments include sports, writing classes, and reading classes. The goal is to work on the whole person so that upon discharge, they can live a life of dignity.
Resocialization in Aruba

The final phase at Brasami is resocialization, which involves training the person to re-enter the community, with this part continuing in Aruba. A significant portion takes place here in Aruba, where other local institutions assist the individual in resocializing within their own environment.

Individuals go through distinct phases: detoxification, structure and motivation, rehabilitation, and finally, resocialization back in Aruba.
Final Considerations

Mental health issues and addiction stand on their own. Addiction is the only psychiatric illness that begins with a choice, but a mental illness is not created simply because someone uses drugs; mental illness can also occur without drugs.
Many individuals suffering from a mental or psychiatric illness alongside addiction can be helped. Every client is different: some can function at 100% again, while others can function with a little bit of support.
