The two pedestrians who died in an accident on the Boerengat bridge on Saturday evening, a 74-year-old woman and a 79-year-old man from Capelle aan den IJssel, had attended the World Ports Day in Rotterdam earlier in the evening. In a press release, the World Ports Days said: “The organization has learned with sadness that two people who had visited the World Ports Days earlier in the day were killed in a car crash in Rotterdam on Saturday evening. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and wish them much strength.’

The police arrested a 37-year-old man from Nijmegen on Sunday on suspicion of involvement in a fatal accident on Saturday night in Rotterdam. The driver of the van in question continued to drive after the accident. The vehicle was found Saturday night, but the driver was still missing.

The arrested Nijmegenaar is in custody and is being interrogated, reports the police. Further details were not disclosed.
