The leader of the parliamentary faction of the Movimiento Electoral di Pueblo (MEP), Evelyn Wever-Croes, has expressed concern about the lack of meetings in the Parliament of Aruba. According to the parliamentarian, several requests were made to convene Parliament to debate important issues for the country, but so far these meetings have not been called.
According to Wever-Croes, one of the requests was to address the current economic situation, particularly developments in the international oil market and the opportunities that could arise for Aruba. She indicated that topics such as these deserve broad discussion in Parliament.
The MEP faction leader stated that, in her opinion, the Speaker of Parliament, Marlon Sneek, has not convened the requested meetings. According to Wever-Croes, this situation raises questions about the functioning of Parliament as an institution responsible for exercising oversight over the government and defending the interests of the country.
“It shows that the people’s house is not functioning as it should,” said Wever-Croes, emphasizing that Parliament must have the opportunity to debate and address issues of national importance.
The discussion about the functioning of Parliament continues to be part of the current political debate in Aruba, where different parties are expressing concern about the way the parliamentary institution is operating.
