There are no limits when love, faith, and willpower become the strongest forces in life. His wish to visit our island of Aruba became a beautiful reality thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Together with Prime Minister Eman, Minister Cicilia, and invited guests, young tourist William Bergen Barlow from Ontario, Canada, lit the Christmas lights for the AVP-Futuro Cabinet last night during the holiday lighting ceremony at the Government Building, officially opening the end-of-year season.
But his presence did not end there. William and his family received a warm invitation to visit Cocolishi, where they had the opportunity to meet various government officials and learn more about the work carried out within the government complex.
During his tour of Cocolishi, he received a special gift from Minister Wendrick Cicilia: a symbolic soldier, representing William’s strength and determination—like a true soldier facing any obstacle brought by his health challenges. He also had the opportunity to see different areas within Cocolishi and greet Minister of Justice Arthur Dowers.
William’s impression of our island is one of great admiration. He finds Aruba incredibly beautiful. Besides Aruba’s history, he is fascinated by the warmth and spirit of the Caribbean island.
This was his first visit to Aruba, and—like many visitors—the crystal-clear waters surrounding our island left a deep impression on him. He visited the beach, entered the turquoise sea, and enjoyed a moment of peace and joy.
It was a unique experience for him: not only did he meet the Prime Minister of Aruba, but he also played a role in the official lighting ceremony. William expressed his feelings clearly: “I love Aruba.” Despite his physical limitations and the fact that he spends much of his time in the hospital, William is a curious young man eager to learn about different cultures and experiences—something Aruba has generously offered him from the moment he arrived.
William is extremely grateful that his wish has come true. He also leaves a lasting memory on Aruba by planting a tree as part of the island’s reforestation project, ensuring that his visit will always be remembered.
