Mervin Wyatt Ras, Minister of Public Health, Social Welfare and Addiction Care, expressed his deep regret following the recent incident in which a young child was left unattended in a vehicle and was later urgently transported to IMSAN before being transferred to Colombia for specialized medical care.
According to the minister, although the education portfolio does not fall directly under his responsibility, he considers the situation very serious and painful. “Situations like this should not happen. There must be sufficient attention and supervision for children in daycare centers and other care facilities,” he stated.
Minister Wyatt Ras emphasized the need for a full and transparent investigation to determine exactly what happened and what steps must be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“It is unacceptable for a child to be left alone. A child must always have adequate supervision,” the minister underlined, noting that responsibility and oversight are essential elements in childcare.
At this time, the priority is the health and recovery of the young child. Minister Wyatt Ras expressed his solidarity with the affected family and wished them strength during this difficult period.
“The people of Aruba are united in prayer that everything will turn out well and that the child may return home safe and healthy,”
