The People’s National Party (PNP) fraction has learned with immense sadness of the strong earthquake that struck our neighboring country, Colombia, leaving destruction in its wake and forcing authorities to declare a state of national disaster. At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have lost loved ones, those who are injured, and everyone who has lost their home.
Curaçao and Colombia share close ties in trade, tourism, healthcare, history, culture, and strong family bonds. In Curaçao, we have a large community of Colombian brothers and sisters who work hard every day and contribute to the development of our country. We share their concern and pain during this time.
As a party anchored in the principles of Christian democracy, the PNP upholds the value of the common good. Solidarity knows no borders, much like with our brothers and sisters from Venezuela. When a neighboring and sister country goes through such a major crisis, we as the people of Curaçao must demonstrate our greatness, empathy, and humanity.
The PNP fraction asks the people of Curaçao to keep the people of Colombia in their prayers and urges our community to support humanitarian initiatives that may arise to send aid to the affected areas.
We hope that strength, courage, and unity will guide the Colombian people through the difficult reconstruction process. Curaçao stands with Colombia.
