During a significant ceremony related to the restoration of the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Bernhardstraat, Prime Minister Mike Eman emphasized the value of preserving Aruba’s historical, spiritual, and community heritage.

The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation to all experts, church leaders, and representatives of organizations who contributed to the project, including Professor Luciano Millard, Raul Gei, director of the Monumentenbureau, as well as the designer and architect of the restoration, and respected professional Daphne Every from the Ministry of General Affairs, who works as project manager for various ongoing restoration projects, as well as the new director of the Stichting Monumenten Fonds Aruba.

Eman underscored that the restoration is the result of cooperation among different actors within the community, where technical knowledge and social commitment come together to protect historical heritage.

In his speech, the Prime Minister indicated that the building is not only a physical structure, but also a place with special meaning for the community, where it has formed part of the spiritual and social life of many people. He highlighted that for many, this place has served as a source of guidance, inspiration, and the formation of values.

In a broader reflection, the Prime Minister mentioned that in a global context facing various challenges, initiatives like this demonstrate the importance of maintaining connections with fundamental values, community, and shared responsibility.

Eman also shared a personal experience from his life, referring to a childhood neighbor who was a member of the Adventist Church and contributed to his understanding of discipline, responsibility, and good citizenship. According to him, experiences like these demonstrate the positive role community institutions can play in shaping individuals.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the restoration of the building represents more than a physical renovation; it contributes to the preservation of Aruba’s identity and history.

Finally, Prime Minister Mike Eman confirmed his commitment to continue supporting the restoration process, indicating that it forms part of a broader vision for the revitalization of Bernhardstraat and its historical heritage. The vision of “Bon Comun”, promoted by the Prime Minister, places the community at the center of development. With the establishment of the Stichting Revitalization Bernhardstraat, this vision has become concrete action, focused on cooperation, renewal, and strengthening the community.

In the same spirit, several beautification initiatives have been carried out in the area, including the painting of buildings and houses. Additionally, a mural honoring Aruban musician Julio Bernardo Euson was inaugurated at the Chocolate City building in San Nicolas, recognizing his cultural contributions and international career.

The speech concluded with a message of unity, commitment, and respect for Aruba’s history and identity.
