— In its 2025 annual report, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (Openbaar Ministerie – OM) of Aruba provided an overview of structural advancements under the vision ‘Op weg naar 2027’ (On the way to 2027). One of the most prominent highlights was the update to the victim care (slachtofferzorg) instructions, aligning them with the new rights outlined in the Code of Criminal Procedure (Wetboek van Strafvordering). Furthermore, a joint study conducted with the University of Aruba showed that establishing a Violent Crimes Compensation Fund (Schadefonds Geweldsmisdrijven) is a realistic and effective option for the island.
In the area of undermining crime (ondermijning), the OM continued to receive structural funding from the Netherlands, which allowed for the hiring of extra personnel to combat money laundering, prosecute corrupt politicians, and seize assets from criminals. Additionally, a preventive project called Choices Matter, so do you! was launched in secondary schools to guide youths between the ages of 12 and 15 in making good life choices. Finally, the “Joint Approach to Juvenile Delinquency” (Gezamenlijke Aanpak Jeugdcriminaliteit) plan was formalized together with the Aruba Police Force (KPA) and the Probation Service (Reclassering) to curb recidivism among minors.
