In the spirit of commemorating May 30, 1969—when the people and workers of Curaçao raised their voices for dignity, social justice, and equality—MAN-PIN emphasizes that every worker has the right to a safe, healthy, and dignified working environment.
The struggle of our workers cannot be forgotten, and it must continue to be reflected in laws and policies that protect the individual, the mother, the father, and the youth who get up every day to work in a dignified manner. For this reason, the MAN-PIN Faction has presented an initiative law called “ARBO Curaçao,” which focuses on protecting workers against physical and mental insecurity across all sectors. This law will replace the Safety Ordinance dating back to 1958 with a modern system that aligns with international standards of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
MAN-PIN emphasizes that every worker has the right to a safe, healthy, and dignified working environment. With this initiative law, an important step is being taken toward modernizing labor rights and worker protection in Curaçao.
The legislative initiative focuses on preventing dangerous situations regarding the safety and health of workers. Employers will have the obligation to systematically identify risks and take measures to prevent workplace accidents, occupational diseases, and psychosocial issues such as burnout and intimidation.
The law strengthens worker rights, such as the right to information and training regarding safety at work. It also grants the right to stop or refuse dangerous work in case of serious danger, along with protection against retaliation when a worker takes action for their safety.
Finally, the initiative law strengthens the control and management of labor inspection, introducing stricter sanctions for grave violations to ensure that work is both dignified and safe.
