Inauguration of the Waste Zone (Zona di Desperdicio)

The Waste Zone in Barcadera was officially inaugurated on Monday, June 1st, marking a concrete step in Aruba’s continuous efforts toward sustainability, responsible waste management, and community participation. The facility is open from Monday to Sunday, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, providing residents with a practical and accessible location to dispose of their waste responsibly.

The Waste Zone is the result of a collaboration between the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.), the Ministry of Tourism, Transport, and Labor, alongside the Ministry of General Affairs, Culture, Environment, and Nature, and EcoTech Free Zone N.V.

“For A.T.A., an Aruba that is sweet to live in, is an Aruba that is sweet to visit. Every investment we make is evaluated from this perspective: what benefits our community and how does this strengthen us as a destination. Emphasizing waste management is nothing new for A.T.A., and with the Waste Zone, we confirm our commitment to invest in our destination, protect our environment, and strengthen a sustainable tourism model that benefits both the community and the visitor.”

For A.T.A., investing in our destination—both its physical and human product—is pivotal in the evolution of our tourism. As such, since 2014, A.T.A. has elevated its focus on “Destination Development” and supports, among other things, our nature, culture, safety, beaches, education, neighborhoods, innovation, entrepreneurship, combating the stray cat and dog issue, infrastructural projects, and much more. All of these contribute to the well-being of our country and the experience of our guests.

‘Aruba Limpi’ Campaign
Aruba Limpi (Clean Aruba) has evolved from a traditional awareness campaign into one that now focuses on behavioral change. Beyond creating awareness, Aruba Limpi now provides residents with practical tools and real access to manage waste correctly through the Waste Zone. This helps reduce illegal dumping and improves cleanliness in neighborhoods and public spaces.

Through the ‘Aruba Limpi’ campaign, communication will continue to focus on education and awareness, emphasizing shared responsibility and the positive impact that a clean environment has on our quality of life and on Aruba’s image as a clean, attractive, and sustainable destination. In the coming days, residents can expect informative videos providing more clarity regarding the correct use of the Waste Zone, the permitted waste categories, what types of waste are not allowed, and why waste separation is essential.

Detailed information regarding the Waste Zone is available on the official Aruba Limpi website, www.arubalimpi.com. Follow Aruba Limpi on their social media page @arubalimpi for all updates.
