As part of the meetings of the Commission on Agriculture, Fisheries, and Nutrition of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), PPA (Partido Pueblo Arubano) parliamentary leader Eduard Pieters conducted a working visit to Pius X School in Dakota. This visit served to give Parlatino members insight into the holistic health projects being implemented in Aruba’s education system.
During the visit, Pieters highlighted the school’s model, which focuses on the discipline of “Movement and Health,” extending beyond just nutrition:
The PPA leader emphasized that teaching children emotional self-regulation and emotional intelligence from a young age is fundamental to raising mentally strong citizens who can drive the country forward in the future.
The visit was an opportunity to demonstrate to regional parliamentarians the efforts Aruba is making in this area, showing how local schools are applying the principles of a balanced lifestyle and well-being for students.
Pieters pledged that under a future administration, this topic will be prioritized:
“In a future government, when PPA takes office, we will ensure that ‘Movement and Health’ is officially anchored in the educational curriculum and in our laws. That way, all teachers—both of Movement and Health and primary education—can effectively make use of these goals so that our children learn right away what our health objectives are.”
