A working committee has been created to reactivate the sport nationally
Last week, various sports interest groups met to discuss the topic of Baseball5. During this meeting, discussions were held with members of the Aruba Baseball Association (ABBA), the Aruba Softball Bond (ASB), IBiSA, and Lyrick Pourier, who was part of the group that started the development of Baseball5 in Aruba a few years ago, together with Randolph Oduber, who is part of the “World Baseball Softball Confederation” (WBSC).
A few years ago, the sport of Baseball5 was introduced in Aruba, where it was brought to various schools and sports clubs. Baseball5 is an urban and compact version of the traditional game of baseball/softball that does not require equipment and can be played on a much smaller field, making the sport very accessible and easy for everyone to play. This is an initiative by the WBSC to increase the participation and popularity of baseball and softball.
During this meeting, IBiSA discussed the inclusion of Baseball5 in the School Games, as there is a desire to include it in the Inter-island Games for the ABC islands. Based on this, a committee of various stakeholders, including the Aruban Olympic Committee (COA), was formed to work together to reactivate the sport in Aruba, starting at the school level. Baseball5 is a sport that promotes inclusion, and all stakeholders will work to bring the sport closer to our sports community.
